Nationally, more than 600,000 children are abused or neglected every year.
The primary purpose of visitation is to maintain the parent-child attachments and preserve the child’s sense of belonging as part of a family and community. This relationship is the foundation of child development. Visitation facilitates permanency planning, promotes timely reunification and helps in the decision-making process to establish alternative permanency plans when reunification is not in the best interest of the child.
Through supervised visitations with their parents from whom they have been removed, children are encouraged to rebuild healthy relationships with their biological families, aiding their recovery from the traumatic events negatively impacting their physical and mental wellness. Having a safe space to overcome these issues is vital to repairing families whose circumstances resulted in the child’s removal from their home, and subsequent placement in a foster home which is usually in a different neighborhood, in a different school, a different place of worship, with different favorite foods and few of their own belongings.
Child Advocacy Services SEGA, Inc. offers families involved in the foster care system, two centers for visits, one in Guyton and one Statesboro.
